We’re shaking, or dare we say, switching, things up with The Switch outdoor skate park! Presented in partnership with our friends at The Compound YYC and Academy Skateboard Collective, this pop-up pilot skate park is located in C-Square at the corner of 4 Street and 7 Avenue SE.

All levels, ages and abilities are welcome to the park which features quarter-pipes, a box, rail and a kicker ramp. Instructors from Academy Skateboard Collective are onsite and a limited number of skateboards are available to borrow. Helmets are mandatory and other protective gear is recommended.

We have partnered with our friends The Compound YYC and Academy Skateboard Collective to bring The Switch to life!

The Compound YYC was created in 2016 to provide a safe indoor space for a local snowboard club and evolved as the need for skateboarding facilities grew in Calgary. Today they offer lessons and camps for all ages and abilities along with public drop in hours.

Academy Skateboard Collective’s mission is to “connect marginalized populations to their communities by providing mentorship, training, and support, through school-based skateboard programming and outreach.” They offer skateboard residencies to schools and community groups teaching the history and fundamentals of skateboarding.

INSTRUCTORS & RENTALS

Academy Skateboard Collective will have instructors onsite during our regular hours of operation to share their tips and tricks! They will also have a limited number of skateboards to lend out. Please note helmets are mandatory and not provided at The Switch.

The Fine print

The park is a shared space, open to all people of all abilities! It is free of charge and welcomes everyone. No negative behaviour towards others will be tolerated.

• Helmets are mandatory. Other protective gear is recommended.

• No alcohol or cannabis use is permitted on site.

• Skateboards only. No bikes, scooters, rollerblades, etc.

• All participants must sign a waiver prior to using the park.

• Use of this skate park is at your own risk. You assume all liability of any injuries, damages or losses that occur.

• Nearest washrooms are along RiverWalk, seasonal hours in effect (Mon-Fri  7am-9am and 3pm-7pm, Sat-Sun & Holidays  9am-5pm)

• Leave it better than you found it! Please take all waste and recyclables with you or dispose of them in receptacles located around the neighbourhood. 

• Please do not skate if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been a close contact with a positive case. 

• None of the shared seating areas will be disinfected between uses. 

• Follow the guidelines and recommendations from Alberta Health Services on public gatherings and outdoor recreation.
