An exciting riverside project broke ground in East Village today with construction crews and equipment on site, ready to dig in. XYC Design + Development's M2 is a mixed-use development that will become next-door neighbour to community staple, the Simmons Building. The project will bring more dining options to RiverWalkers, plus office space and residential.
The land that M2 sits on is small in size (only a quarter acre) but big on impact with a design that offers unobstructed views of the beautiful Bow River. New York City firm nARCHITECTS designed the zig-zagging building for XYC. The unique design, sloping back from the river, will limit the shadow cast upon RiverWalk to make sure that strollers and cyclists always enjoy a place in the sun.
When complete in 2019, the four-storey building will have approximately 7,500 square feet of restaurant space on the main floor, with more than 2,500 additional square feet of riverfront patio spilling out onto RiverWalk Plaza. The upper two floors of boutique office space bring another 12,500 square feet, and a unique 3-bedroom penthouse live/work unit perches on the top floor, overlooking the Bow River and St. Patrick’s Island.
