40 acres

— Let’s move history forward

Part museum, part gathering place, The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (formerly Fort Calgary) is our neighbour to the east. It’s linked to East Village by The Confluence’s Edges: five RCMP-red sentinels that stand in honour of key figures in the history of the city.

East Villagers appreciate the unique and rare combination of history and the 40 acres of open space that The Confluence offers in an otherwise urban area. The fort itself holds an exhibition of artifacts that tell the story of how the city of Calgary came to be on the once-treeless prairie. And the grounds can be explored any time of year.

In spring 2024, Fort Calgary changed its name to The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland.

Under this new name, expand the narrative of the place to encompass the many diverse histories of the land. Stories of the North-West Mounted Police and Fort Calgary help to define it and will always be a part of the narrative, but there are other important stories to be told, too. At The Confluence, storytelling is liberated and history is an open and welcoming book.
