Block Heater 2020

Calgary Folk Music Festival’s Block Heater, presented by ATB, returns for its 5th year to venues in East Village and Inglewood from February 20 – 22, 2020. With 38 homegrown, national and international artists in concerts and collaborative sessions, plus a film and panel discussion, it’s the ultimate cure for cabin fever.

We Are the Roots: Black Settlers and Their Experiences of Discrimination on the Canadian Prairies

This film sheds light on the little-known stories of African-American settlers who arrived in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the early 20th century. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with artists, academics and filmmakers. This special Black Future Month presentation is brought to you by Calgary Folk Music Festival's Block Heater.

Strength 101 at Crush Camp

Are you brand new to strength training? Coming back from an injury? Or maybe you’re just looking to improve your knowledge and form. Swingin’ Sundays

Learn to swing dance with Calgary Public Library's beginner-friendly introductory lessons starting at 1 pm, and social dancing from 2-4 pm. No partner or experience required. This program is in partnership with Top Cat Swing.

Daybreak at Night

Join Russell Bowers of CBC’s Daybreak Alberta program for a performance from Calgary singer-songwriter Justine Tyrell. You’ll also hear from a panel of guests including author Aritha van Herk; Shaun Hunter, author of "Calgary Through the Eyes of Writers"; and Community Engagement Partner at Bromwich+Smith, Taz Rajan, who will discuss RRSPs and tax debt.
