River’s Edge:
Our Urban Nature

River’s Edge is bordered on the west by 4th Street SE, on the north by Riverfront Avenue and Confluence Way (5th Ave SE), and to the south by 6th Ave SE.

River’s Edge is a natural gathering place for East Village residents and visitors. The Simmons Building will be joined by a variety of restaurants offering a 5-star view over the RiverWalk and the water. Market stalls and a few choice apartments round out the waterfront in River’s Edge, and either end is punctuated by landmark hotels.

Landmark architecture
The southwestern boundary of River’s Edge, at 6th Avenue SE and 4th Street, will be home to a hotel distinguished enough to draw the city’s most sophisticated visitors. On the northeast corner of the area, a more intimate hotel will punctuate the place where the diagonal Riff meets the RiverWalk.

The Simmons Building
You can’t miss the Simmons building; it’s the handsome, historic brick structure on the East Village waterfront. It’s also the only building on the East Village waterfront right now, which makes it doubly important as a symbol of the area’s potential. On the inside, the building is CMLC’s head office, an award-winning model of intelligent historical restoration – and a hive of planning, sketching, discussion and envisioning how East Village might look, feel and taste in the future. The former mattress manufacturing plant will serve many purposes over the next decades – it has been imagined as everything from a community centre to a brew pub.
