Meet the Neighbours:
the Communities of Centre City

East Village is part of Centre City, which includes Eau Claire, 17th Ave. and Inglewood. Kensington is also part of what could loosely be called "downtown", and Bridgeland is right on the edge. Each of these core neighbourhoods has its own character and all are key to the vitality of the city as a whole. EV, until now, has been a missing piece of the downtown puzzle. But that's all about to change.

Kensington
Places to sit, people to watch, coffee to sip...Kensington is an easy place to hang out and watch the world go by. A boomer stronghold, Kensington gets fresh faces from students and tourists.

Eau Claire
The river is so close, yet somehow at arm’s length from Eau Claire, downtown’s pretty garden walkway. Framed by highrises and flanked by trees, Eau Claire is a bustling path for suits, students and kamikaze bikers alike.

17th Ave
Entertainments of many kinds are concentrated on 17th Ave. Patio culture thrives in summer, upscale restaurants are neighbours with lowbrow pubs, sidewalks are full and the feel is definitely big city.

Bridgeland
Bridgeland is a neighbourhood reborn, with much new housing and retail, and its character is still emerging. Neither completely urban nor truly suburban, it occupies a place of choice for people looking for the best of two worlds.

Inglewood
There aren’t many Calgary neighbourhoods that can give off an authentic historical vibe, but Inglewood’s got it – and its patina is a magnet to a funky and eclectic group of retailers residents and restaurateurs.

Conversations

I think I like Inglewood too – there’s a true funkiness there I don’t feel anywhere else in the city.

I am so excited to see the east village develop - I hope that more families like ours will decide to make one of our inner city communities their home.

Where is Beltline? Isn't it the largest and closest neighbour to the East Village?
