The walls of the Seafood Market and the King Eddy Hotel both sport the work of one of western Canada’s leading visual artists, David Brunning, aka ‘The Kid Belo’.
CMLC first commissioned Calgary local Brunning to paint his largest mural to date on the east and south exteriors of the Seafood Market. Brunning took his inspiration from the East Village tagline, ‘Calgary’s newest, oldest, coolest, warmest neighbourhood.’
‘I’ve always wanted to paint big and this was a dream come true,” said Brunning. “I wanted to bring a sense of brightness to the community that reflects the amazing changes it’s undergoing. That’s why the mural is fun, colourful, legible, but still funky.”
Brunning’s work on the Seafood Market was so popular, CMLC asked him to work his magic on the old King Eddy exterior. He blended aspects of the National Music Centre logo with the ‘V’ from East Village – a reflection of the partnership between Cantos and CMLC.
