Green Thumbs Wanted!

Calling all gardeners! East Village's brand new community garden opens this Spring and boasts over 80 garden plots. Now all that’s needed are the skillful green thumbs of neighbourhood residents to keep our community GROWING!

In 2008, the first temporary community garden was created, and since that time our garden has flourished, bringing together residents from all over the community. This garden was always envisioned as a temporary location until the permanent home for the garden was completed at Crossroads.  Fast forward to 2016, and the garden is ready to open in April for its first planting season!

The new garden, located along 6th Street and 7th Avenue SE in the Crossroads area, boasts 88 plots, including 28 wheelchair accessible raised beds, an irrigation system and storage facility with ample working space for gardeners.

If you are interested in applying for a plot for the 2016 gardening season, please call CMLC at 403-718-0300 between Tuesday, March 1 and Thursday, March 31, 2016. All names and contact info will be collected and a random draw for plots will be made on April 1, 2016.  Should there be more applicants than available plots, names will be added to a wait-list in the order they were drawn.  Gardeners who maintained a plot in the old garden through the 2015 season will have first right of refusal to secure a plot in the new garden.

Plots are available on a one-per-household basis, open to East Village residents only and subject to all other EV Community Garden guidelines to be presented to gardeners when plots are assigned. Plot assignment and the 2016 Community Garden program will be managed by the East Village Neighbourhood Association (EVNA).

We can't wait to watch our garden bloom. Stay tuned as updates become unearthed –  we'll be the first to dish up the dirt!
