On July 1, wear your maple leaf heart proudly on your sleeve, and join your friends and neighbours in East Village to say “Happy Birthday, Canada!”
Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood is the place to be this Canada Day. With a street fair busting out all along 8th Avenue, a Show and Shine, and performances and activities for all ages – all day long – in 5th Street Square, EV will put on a birthday celebration befitting a nation.
The fun starts at 9 am and lasts right up to 4 pm, so come early and stay late. The rollicking 8th Avenue Street Fair will be chock-a-block with craft and artisan vendors and spilling over with children’s activities of all kinds, from the City Hall LRT station all the way to Fort Calgary. Pick up some Canada Day treasures to take home, thrill to the non-stop action of live on-the-spot art, or let the youngsters try their hand at free Canada Day activities.
For auto aficionados or those who are simply car-curious, Calgary’s premier classic car show – Show and Shine – is on the ground in EV. Check out some of the classic and brand new imports and North American vehicles that everybody is raving about.
EV’s newest urban parkette, 5th Street Square, will be at the heart of the Canada Day action. The plucky little square at 5th Street and 7th Avenue SE is where you’ll find the lively EAST Crew offering up activities and performances and a little something for everybody. Try your hand at some games and crafts or let your toes do the tapping and your hips do the shaking with live street performances happening throughout the day.
And be sure to drop by Fort Calgary for some historical Canada Day activities, right in Calgary’s birthplace and just across the road.
It’s going to be a great day, so join us in East Village all day long on July 1 and give a big birthday shout-out to Canada.
