If you’ve ever tried to book a hotel for a pal in Calgary, you know the city’s hotel shortage firsthand. CMLC’s latest land deal should help alleviate that a little.
East Village Master Developer CMLC has partnered with US-based Widewaters Group to build a 315 room hotel combining the Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Inn and Suites. It’ll be built on 7th Ave. and 4th St. SE in East Village, just north of the historic St. Louis Hotel.
This ain’t your daddy’s suburban Hilton – renderings show a slim, modern 14-story building with LED lights running up the side, a south-facing rooftop terrace and pool, fitness facilities and meeting rooms.
Combining the two brands under one roof means that both short term and longer term stays can be accommodated in the 208,000 sq. ft. facility in East Village.
The $75 million deal is the third major land transaction in East Village, joining the Embassy BOSA and FRAM+Slokker land transactions in 2010 and 2011. Widewaters Group is a real estate development and management company with $1.16 billion invested in 2,500 hotel rooms in the US and Canada.
Will you be able to get a reservation? You bet. Construction is anticipated to start in 2013, with warm beds and Hilton hospitality ready for you some 16-20 months later. See you on the rooftop lounge!
